Arrest Warrant for Azimio MP over Unpaid Shopping Debt
On Friday, May 12, a warrant of arrest was issued for the Member of Parliament for Lamu West, Stanley Muthama. The warrant was issued due to an outstanding debt of Ksh2.2 million.
Because he has not paid off his debt, the deputy registrar of the High Court has ordered all of the police stations in Lamu County to arrest the MP.
The arrest of him also required the assistance of police officers stationed in buildings housing the Parliament.
According to the documents filed with the court. The debt was incurred as a result of a supply of hardware goods. Mde to a business that was owned by the lawmaker.
Between the years 2014 and 2015, the aggrieved business entity allegedly provided the goods. To the Member of Parliament who ran on a Jubilee Party ticket.
The warrant stated in part, “Whereby the sum remains unpaid in respect of the said decree, these orders are to command you to arrest the said Mr. Muthama and unless they shall pay to you the sum of Kshs2,277,469 together with executing officer’s fees, if any, to bring the said judgment-debtor before the court with all convenient speed.”
According to the reports, the legislator made a profit of Ksh6.7 million off of the sale of the goods. Which had an initial estimate of Ksh9 million.

After the aggrieved business entity pleaded with the court to have the MP arrested. For failing to honor a payment schedule that had been agreed upon, the court issued the warrant of arrest. The MP was arrested for failing to honor the payment schedule.
“Please issue warrants of arrest against Hon. Stanley Muthama for being a serial defaulter, owing to the balance of a sum of Ksh2,277,469.20 that has fallen due,” the letter read.
“As per the decree of October 14, 2022, under Clause (V), in default of any single installment the entire balance falls due and warrants of arrest to issue against the 2nd Defendant, Hon. Stanley Muthama,” the lawyer for the plaintiff, Robinson Kigen, asked the court. “In default of any single installment the entire balance falls due and warrants of arrest to issue against the 2nd Defendant, Hon. Stanley Muthama.”
The lawmaker had mentioned his difficulties in paying off the arrears in earlier court documents.
According to Muthama, his company was forced to close in 2019 as a result of an overwhelming number of financial challenges.
