Angry Residents Slam Ruto For Launching Old Projects

Tuesday, residents of Vihiga County criticized President William Ruto before he visited the county to launch several initiatives.

During an interview, the locals expressed their displeasure with the president’s visit to introduce and commission a project already commissioned by the previous regime.

One local stated, “You are coming to reopen roads that you opened when you were vice president.”

Ruto is anticipated to visit the county to inaugurate the CT Scan Centre at the Vihiga County Referral Hospital and to commission affordable housing near the Vihiga Law Courts.

They argued that the roads he will construct, including one from Soma to Shamakhokho, were constructed during the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“The president will not introduce any development projects to the county. One resident remarked, “We have seen his program, and the majority of the projects fall under county jurisdiction.”

Residents of Vihiga also complained about the affordable housing program, stating that there was no public involvement in the project.

“How can you introduce projects without soliciting bids and without letting us know how much they will cost or who the contractor is?” asked another.

According to the locals, Ruto was only in the area to campaign for the 2027 election and disparage those “wearing sufurias”

They added that Ruto and his entourage would nationalize politics and criticize the opposition and Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

Residents have advised the president to organize his priorities and provide essential services in the county, such as ambulances, the employment of physicians, and adequate medical supplies.

“When the president arrives, I want him to be explicit about how he plans to assist the youth. “It is time for him to keep his word,” stated another local.

Residents also complained that Ruto’s Hustler Fund had not helped them as promised due to its low loan limit and numerous restrictions. They asserted that the Ksh500 offered as a loan was insufficient given the current economic climate.

The Head of State was in charge of re-launching initiatives that his predecessors had already commissioned.

The opposition has accused Ruto of taking credit for these development projects to encourage him to begin his projects and implement his campaign promises.

While on a five-day tour of Mount Kenya in early August, Ruto defended his government’s decision to relaunch the projects by claiming he participated in their planning under the previous administration.

He explained that he was compelled to take on the administration’s initiatives because the handshake between Uhuru and Raila halted progress.
