Adani Whistleblower Unmasks More Shady Deals Amid Firm’s Fightback
Nelson Amenya, the whistleblower who exposed the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Adani deal, confirmed on Wednesday that the contract remains unsigned. He attributed the delay to the public outcry that followed the leak of the deal’s details.
Speaking from France during an interview with KTN News, Amenya stated, “The deal hasn’t been signed because, after my exposure, everything slowed down. Without my revelation, the agreement would have already been finalized.”
Amenya further revealed that the deal was surrounded by secrecy, which is why Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir delayed his Senate appearance. He claimed Chirchir didn’t fully disclose the details of the original proposal during his presentation in the Senate.
The whistleblower also accused a prominent Kenya Kwanza politician of accepting bribes to expedite the deal. Amenya challenged the government to present documents to disprove his allegations.
He linked JKIA’s deteriorating state to mismanagement, exposing that a Chinese company was contracted in 2020 to fix the airport’s leaking roofs, a problem that persists to date.

“Did you know a tender worth Ksh1 billion was awarded to a Chinese firm for roof repairs? They received the contract initially in 2020, and when CS Murkomen took office, they were called back again,” Amenya alleged.
Amenya added that the tender was awarded through single sourcing, with government officials allegedly blocking any competitive bidding process.
Despite the poor quality of work by the Chinese company, Amenya claimed the firm was still retained to complete the project. He noted that despite the Ksh1 billion payment, the repairs remain unfinished.
In response to a question about whether JKIA needed an upgrade, the whistleblower held the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) responsible for mismanaging funds intended for the airport’s improvements.
“Mismanagement of funds has brought JKIA to this point. That’s why there’s an urgent need for an upgrade and a new terminal,” Amenya remarked.
He emphasized that any upgrade must follow proper procedures, stating, “If it’s a PPP project, the PPP Act of 2021 must be adhered to, emergency or not.”
Despite the ongoing allegations against the Adani Group, the conglomerate has consistently denied any misconduct.
On Wednesday, September 18, the company issued a press statement dismissing claims that the KAA approved their proposal in just 17 days, confirming that the contract remains unsigned.
