Adan Keynan: Jubilee Rejects Maandamano, Seeks Exit from Azimio

Adan Keynan, Elda’s representative, stated that the Jubilee party has chosen to distance itself from the ongoing anti-government demonstrations and further seeks to disentangle itself from the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

Monday on Citizen TV’s Daybreak program, Keynan stated that the party does not support the ideologies of the opposition, which have led to property destruction and loss of life during the protests.

“Jubilee has refused and will continue to refuse to participate in maandamano that are designed to destroy Kenyans’ property and lives,” he said.

“During the election, we were a part of Azimio, but we have resigned from that coalition because it is not concerned with the welfare of the Kenyan people. As a result, we do not support maandamano and the sufuria revolution because we know that their proponents are misinformed.”

The legislator, who is the party’s interim Deputy chairman, added that he has mobilized all party members except Jeremiah Kioni, who was suspended as Secretary General, to stay away from the protests.

They will not be visible. Our erstwhile Secretary General Kioni is the only person you know who does not represent us,” he said.

The Jubilee party is in disarray as factions commanded by Kioni and EALA MP Kanini Kega battle for control of the party.

In the meantime, there is a stay order preserving Kioni’s position, as a result of a High Court ruling that halted a Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) ruling that authorized his suspension.

Kioni and former vice chairman David Murathe were expelled from the party leadership, according to Kega’s faction.

Kioni was expelled from the party for flagrant insubordination and for failing to respect the party’s organs and fulfill his responsibilities as Secretary General.

Gichohi was suspended for allegedly refusing to carry out the party’s instructions and not respecting the party’s headquarters, while Murathe was fired for egregious misconduct.

In the leadership changes, the faction commanded by Kega replaced former president Uhuru Kenyatta with nominated member of parliament Sabina Chege.

Rachael Nyamai, a representative from Kitui South, will replace Kagwe Gichohi as national treasurer, among other positions.
