Activist Boniface Mwangi Reportedly Arrested During Nairobi Protest and Taken to Central Police Station
Activist Boniface Mwangi was reportedly apprehended by police on Thursday while he was protesting at the Kenyatta Market in Nairobi.
Mwangi’s lawyer confirmed the arrest, stating that he was taken to the Central Police Station.
Boniface Mwangi and fellow activist Hussein Khalid of Haki Africa were detained while protesting against recent killings that occurred during anti-government demonstrations.
The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has called for their release and pledged to persist in pushing for the prosecution of the officers responsible for the deaths of anti-government protesters.
“Free Boniface Mwangi and Hussein Khalid. We will continue demanding accountability for the officers who caused the deaths of innocent Kenyans,” said the Commission.

Before his arrest, Mwangi was seen marching through Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) with other protesters, holding large placards and crosses. The demonstrators wore white T-shirts with red stripes.
The protest was abruptly ended when police intervened and began dispersing the crowd, leading to Mwangi’s arrest during the confrontation.
This arrest follows an incident earlier in the week when protesting youths reportedly invaded Mwangi’s office, accusing him of organizing the recent demonstrations.
In videos obtained by Gossipa2z.com, the youths are seen holding twigs and placards, demanding to speak with Mwangi.
“We want to end these demonstrations,” one protester said. “We seek peace, not protests,” another added.
“We bear the brunt when participating in such unlawful demonstrations. The government has promised to restore Kazi Kwa Vijana, and we are prepared to listen,” stated yet another protester.
