Ababu Namwamba Appoints Official Immediately After Kindiki Fired Her
Ababu Namwamba, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, appointed Lucia Nzoongo to the Kenya Film Commission’s Board of Directors on Friday.
Nzoongo’s three-year term began on Friday, September 1, according to a Gazette Notice from the Sports CS dated August 31.
“The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, the Arts and Sports appoints Lucia Nzoongo to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Film Commission, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the September 1, 2023,” read the notice in part.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki revoked her appointment as a member of the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse Authority Board in the same day’s Gazette Notice.
On Friday, Nzoongo’s appointment was terminated, coinciding with the beginning of her new position at KFC. Hassan ole Naado supplanted her in the position.
A presidential order designated the former NACADA board member to the position in February 2023.

She was appointed alongside former Emgwen Member of Parliament Elijah Lagat, Ali Swaleh Nyamai, Ann Njeri Mathu, and Fred Ngugi.
In her new position, Nzoongo will help oversee the commission whose mandate is to develop, promote, and market the local and international film industry.
KFC is also tasked with coordinating and certifying individuals, associations, and organizations involved in the production of film, photography, video, stills, animation, new media, and related media, as well as establishing and administering a film promotion fund and film industry incubation centres.
During his tenure at NACADA, Nzoongo was responsible for supervising the vital authority charged with combating drug abuse across the nation.
NACADA is also responsible for coordinating a national public education and awareness campaign against the abuse of alcohol, narcotics, and other substances.
