This drew attention, and a potential buyer contacted him to set up a meeting. For the kidney, the buyer was willing to pay Ksh 10 million.
“With the Ksh10 million, I would have constructed a home for my mum, educated my siblings, and started a flourishing business.
The agent came to his house and persuaded him to accompany them to the buyer.
A tire burst on the road and the agents fled, believing police officers were shooting at them. Makhanda was left in the vehicle, oblivious to what was going on.
He was rescued by another motorist, who provided him with a place to stay for the night as well as Ksh5,000 to travel back home. He decided to rebuild his life without selling any of his body parts.
Makhanda currently owns an electronics store as well as a charcoal supply company.
He is thankful that the motorist saved him that day; otherwise, he would not be here to tell his story.
