Prophet Owuor Church Clears Deregistration Misunderstandings

On Saturday, August 19, members of the Repentance and Holiness Church refuted claims that the government has deregistered the church associated with Prophet David Owuor.

Friday, August 18th, a portion of media outlets reported that the church had been closed. In a press conference conducted in Nairobi, the congregation disproved this claim.

In their clarification, the congregation members maintained that the deregistered King’s Outreach Church had initiated the deregistration process independently, despite being affiliated with the Repentance and Holiness Church. According to them, deregistration was pursued to consolidate operations and avoid the appearance of fragmentation.

The disciples also communicated that the decision to close King’s Outreach Church on December 3, 2022, had been made. They emphasized the length of time it took the Registrar of Societies to finalize the closure of the worship center.

“After the 2022 annual meeting, it was decided to dissolve and deregister King’s Outreach Church.

“Kings Outreach Church was deregistered based on that AGM Resolution, so the deregistration of Kings Outreach Church has nothing to do with Shakahola,” said Archbishop Major General (Retired) George Kyaka.

The congregants criticized media outlets for claiming that Prophet Owuor’s church was one of five that were shut down by the State at a time when some Kenyan churches are being investigated for indoctrinating their members.

New Life Prayer Centre and Church, owned by Pastor Ezekiel Odero, and Good News International Church, founded by Pastor Paul Mackenzie, are among the deregistered congregations.

The Registrar of Societies consequently deregistered King’s Outreach Church in good standing.

The remaining four churches, however, were removed from the list due to various controversies surrounding them.

“It is now established that a portion of the media is in the business of spreading false information and is quite arrogant about it. This is a complete departure from the expectation that media outlets will disseminate the truth, as stated by Archbishop John Litunda.

The clergyman asserted that some media outlets went into overdrive to spread lies and animosity against Prophet Owuor, who, according to the Church, is still in command of his worship centers.

In the interim, members of Prophet Owuor’s Church will continue to attend services at Repentance and Holiness Church, one of the largest centers in East Africa and beyond.

The Repentance and Holiness Church has millions of adherents and hundreds of local branches.
