    Ex-KDF Officer Arrested for Embakasi, Kayole Robberies

    Nairobi police have arrested a 29-year-old former Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officer believed to be a member of a notorious gang responsible for a string of robberies in the Embakasi and Kayole neighborhoods.

    Ronald Juma Anyanyi, who was reportedly discharged from the military on September 22, 2022, was arrested by police officers conducting clandestine operations in the Pipeline neighborhood on Thursday.

    According to the police, Juma and his suspected accomplice who evaded capture were traveling on a motorcycle with concealed license plates, which drew the officers’ attention.

    “They (police) moved swiftly and confronted the duo, one of whom leaped from the motorcycle and escapedโ€ฆ The perpetrator, Ronald Juma Anyanyi, 29, was arrested with a Mossberg Patriot short gun with a telescopic sight and 7.62mm live ammunition concealed in nylon, according to the arrest report.

    The police escorted the suspect to his home in Utawala, where they discovered additional ammunition, handcuffs, and a military uniform.

    “Upon interrogation, he admitted to being an ex-KDF officer, and he led the officers to his residence in Utawala, where they recovered another six(6) rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, twenty-six (26) rounds of 9mm ammunition, an HK 21 bipod stand, a pair of handcuffs, military fatigue, KDF identification, and a military service register showing he was discharged from the service on 22 September 2022,” police said.

    Stephanie Mwende, a 20-year-old woman identified as the girlfriend of Boniface Aburiri Wakhusama, who is believed to have fallen from the motorcycle, was also discovered in the residence.

    The two suspects are currently in police custody while investigations and the search for their accomplices continue.
