Impeachment Looms for Kericho Governor Over Londiani Fund Use
A group of county assembly members from Kericho have pledged to introduce a motion for the removal of Governor Erick Mutai. This comes after an inquiry into the utilization of funds collected for the victims of the Londiani accident.
The MCAs led by Kericho County Assembly majority leader, Phillip Rono, accused the county government of misappropriating Ksh 14.5 million raised by wellwishers to help the Londiani victims.
“We’re going for a short recess but when we’re back, we’ll immediately form a select committee to look into this report and after that, we’ll bring a motion into the house – of impeachment,” the majority leader remarked.
The governor is currently being urged to take strong measures against six county officials who are accused of being responsible for the improper use of funds. The complete enforcement of the law must be ensured in this situation.
As per the MCAs, the misuse of funds intended for aiding the victims in Londiani created a negative image of the county among the general population.
They are currently urging swift measures to be taken against those implicated to safeguard the reputation of the region from being tarnished.
They have additionally demanded the removal of party sanctions from appointed county assembly members who didn’t attend sessions at the Kericho county chambers.

The leaders observed that each of them was entrusted with the responsibility to serve the residents of Kericho. Therefore, they would not tolerate any misconduct from fellow leaders.
“We have requested the majority leader to de-whip those members and that will happen from next week, for failing to attend a very important session,” Kisiara Ward MCA, Gilbert Ngetich noted.
A unique panel established by the Kericho County Assembly to examine the utilization of the Ksh14.5 million intended for the victims of the Londiani junction road accident has uncovered significant inconsistencies in the disbursements carried out by the donation committee.
The report delivered by Majority Leader Philip Rono pointed out that there were notable differences in payments to two suppliers among the bills presented to the committee.
The committee had recommended the sacking of six county officials earlier this month but has not seen any action taken.
Earlier this month, the committee suggested the dismissal of six county officials, yet no steps have been observed to be taken in response.
