Bondo: Raila’s Fresh Protest Approach; Azimio Governors To Snub Ruto-COG Meet
Raila’s Fresh Approach to Future Protests
Raila Odinga, the leader of the opposition party Azimio, has declared that his coalition will no longer call people to the streets, but instead urge them to remain indoors.
The opposition leader, speaking in Bondo during a requiem mass for victims of police misconduct, stated that there are multiple ways to ”skin a cat”.
Raila declared that the opposition would not be deterred from fighting for the rights of Kenyans and that they would devise a new plan to prevent murders.
“We cannot be intimidated; it is our duty to liberate our nation,” Raila declared.
”We can tell our people to stay home, which is another method to express dissatisfaction. Next time, we will not tell people to come out; instead, we want you to stay at home and prevent anyone from attempting to leave.” – Raila.
Raila spoke days after suspending street protests to allow the team of President William Ruto an opportunity for dialogue.
The team is expected to commence serious negotiations on Monday, following an initial meeting on Wednesday.

Why Azimio governors will boycott Ruto’s meeting with CoG – Orengo
Governor James Orengo of Siaya has stated that the governors of Azimio la Umoja will boycott the meeting of the Council of Governors with President William Ruto due to the removal of their security.
The meeting is scheduled for next week in Eldoret, and President William Ruto will preside.
Orengo stated on Friday during the requiem liturgy for protest victims in Siaya County that the governors of Azimio will hold a meeting to decide to boycott the event.
“We cannot remain with someone who stripped Baba of his security. Orengo stated that Azimio will hold a meeting to determine that they cannot attend a meeting presided over by Ruto while he has removed our leader’s security.
He stated that this was why they were unable to attend the meeting.
The Governor of Siaya added that only administrators of the Azimio party and other party politicians lacked security.
Vice President Rigathi Gachagua announced on July 30 that the government will reinstate the security detail of Azimio leaders three months from now.
Gachagua disclosed that security will be restored once the government is certain that there will be no street demonstrations.
“I’m regretful that your security was compromised. Your officers were dispatched to handle protesters. Your officers will be returned to you after three months when we are certain that no demonstrations have occurred, he said.
