Senator Mandago’s DCI Statement on Finland Scholarship Issue

On Thursday, August 10th, Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago provided a statement to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding the Finland scholarship controversy.

The ex-governor also suggested that he appeared at the DCI headquarters located along Kiambu Road.

As per Mandago’s statement, he underwent intense questioning regarding the contentious scholarship initiatives targeting Australia, Finland, and Canada within the county.

“I have today recorded my statement at the DCI along Kiambu Road on the Finland and Canada overseas education program,” Mandago stated.

Nevertheless, Mandago refrained from revealing the specifics of the statement he documented at the headquarters of the investigative agency.

Weeks after the official initiation of investigations by the DCI into the controversy surrounding the program that resulted in financial losses for numerous parents and students, the Senator stated the matter.

“All aggrieved victims are requested to present themselves at the DCI County Headquarters in Eldoret, on July 18 for statement recording and other investigative procedures to bring the suspects to book,” DCI directed then.

More than 50 parents provided their statements to the investigators during the activity conducted in the previous month.

“All aggrieved victims are requested to present themselves at the DCI County Headquarters in Eldoret, on July 18 for statement recording and other investigative procedures to bring the suspects to book,” DCI directed then.

Distressed parents and students also approached Mandago during a public event at the Eldoret Municipality Social Hall on Tuesday, August 8th, and asked for their money to be returned.

A few individuals asserted that they sold their land plots and acquired loans to financially support their children’s overseas education in collaboration with the local government.

Nevertheless, the Senator continued to assert his lack of guilt regarding the issue, while also mentioning that the initiative was designed to help students in their pursuit of improved prospects overseas.

โ€œRegistering it as a scholarship would enable students to evade hurdles, including requirements of producing bank statements, and we would also get the advantage of guaranteed visas.

“We are revealing this information today because a lot of information is now in the public domain,โ€ he stated, further pledging to record a statement with the DCI.

Uasin Gishu’s governor, Jonathan Bii, pledged to guarantee the reimbursement of the funds and the thorough resolution of the investigations.
