ICC Prosecutor Khan’s Kenya Visit Raises Azimio Leaders’ Concerns
Leaders affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja Coalition have expressed worries about the appearance of Karim Khan, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), within the nation.
Khan, who acted as President William Ruto’s legal counsel in The Hague during the post-election violence case, visited the nation to be awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Mount Kenya University (MKU).
The district attorney was celebrated for his significant role in advancing the cause of justice and compassion.
Presently, officials from Azimio have indicated that Khan’s trip to Kenya might jeopardize the ongoing inquiries into incidents of police violence within the nation.
“ICC prosecutor Karim Khan’s hosting in Kenya this weekend by Mount Kenya Uni & its founder a friend of his former client William Ruto at a time both the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza regime have written to ICC on the situation in the country, especially the killing spree of unarmed protestors by police is not only suspect but also a blot on the credibility of ICC,” Azimio principal Martha Karua wrote in a tweet on Sunday morning.

Speaking about the matter at a church event in Mwiki, Eugene Wamalwa, the leader of the DAP-K party, mentioned that their coalition’s legal team is in the process of gathering proof of instances of police violence. This evidence is being collected to bolster a lawsuit they plan to submit to The Hague.
“We are raising a red flag over the presence of ICC prosecutor Karim Khan in Kenya,” Wamalwa said.
In an interview with TV47 on Friday, Khan refrained from discussing issues related to Kenya’s case at the ICC, indicating that he has been disqualified from involvement in it.
Regarding his role as a prosecutor, Khan stated that he consistently advocates for the cause of righteousness.
“I always try to act on the side of justice. The main principle is whether you a prosecutor or a judge, or defense counsel, act with integrity, courage, and the realization that you are a servant of something much bigger than yourself,” the prosecutor said.
In July, Azimio requested the ICC’s involvement in situations involving supposed instances of police violence amid protests against the government.
“We are asking the ICC to take a keener interest in Kenyan issues and formally ask the Director of Public Prosecution to carry out independent and speedy investigations on perpetrators,” the Coalition said.
