41 Shakahola Massacre Survivors To Be Indicted for Murder and Terror

Some of the 41 survivors of the Shakahola atrocity are likely to be charged with murder, manslaughter, and other terrorism-related offenses.

According to Shanzu Chief Principal Magistrate Joe Omido, investigations have revealed that 41 of the 65 individuals under investigation were involved in the mysterious deaths of children during the Shakahola massacre, which resulted in the deaths of at least 410 people.

The investigations against the remaining suspects continue.

According to Jami, the 41 are either the parents or grandparents of the presumed deceased missing children.

The court heard that the 41 departed their homes for Shakahola with children ranging in age from one to fourteen, whose whereabouts were unknown.

The 64 individuals are being investigated for murder or manslaughter, attempted suicide, maltreatment, and neglect toward children, failing to transport children to school and failing to provide necessities without a legal excuse, and radicalization.

The court was informed that the 28 women and 13 men were affiliated with the Good News International Church, which is led by minister Paul Makenzie.

Additionally, the investigators discovered that the majority of the suspects used aliases.

Jami filed a petition requesting that the survivors of the massacre at Shakahola be separated and confined at Shimo la Tewa prison.

According to him, intensive investigations had transformed them from victims to suspects.

Omido ordered that the 41 individuals detained in the male and female institutions of Shimo la Tewa be brought before the court for further instructions on Tuesday.

The magistrate stated that the investigators’ apprehension that the 41 may attempt to flee is reasonable given that they are currently facing severe criminal charges.

The court will determine on Jami’s request to drop the attempted suicide charge against the 41-year-old on Tuesday.

However, until further investigation, the attempted suicide charge will remain with the 24 victims.

The party will remain at the Sahajanad Rescue Centre and, among other treatments, will receive counseling.
