Kenyans Spot Contrasts in Azimio and Kenya Kwanza Agreement Letters

The letters of agreement between President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga disclose glaring inconsistencies in the agreement between the opposing camps to resolve the political impasse.

GossipA2Z has determined that the Kenya Kwanza statement, signed by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, outlined five important issues that would serve as the discussion’s foundation.

Among them was the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the implementation of the 2/3 gender rule, and the consolidation of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

The last two issues involved the establishment and embedding of the Office of the Opposition Leader and the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Notably, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi did not sign Kenya Kwanza’s statement, leaving open the issue of whether the opposition agreed to the terms.

Consequently, the issues were absent from the statement issued by Azimio and signed by Wandayi.

The only resolution contained in the opposition’s statement was the establishment of a five-member committee to resolve the differences amicably.

“They include four non-Parliamentarians, two from each party. “The Leaders of the Majority and Minority in the National Assembly, along with four additional Members of Parliament, two from each side,” read a portion of the statement.

In addition, the Azimio statement asserted that Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo would mediate discussions between the Raila Odinga-led group and Ruto’s administration, whereas the Kenya Kwanza statement was conspicuously silent on this point.

Members of the Azimio faction, smelling foul play, observed that such deceptive tactics would not resolve the disagreements. They were perplexed as to why the expense of living was not among the specified key issues.

“Complete foolishness. Where does the cost of living appear within the Terms of Reference? Babu Owino of Embakasi East advised, “Let’s talk on the streets.”

“If the expense of living is not included in the negotiations, Babu Owino and I will demand a parallel initiative. These remarks should not have cost the lives of our people. We must be sincere. Robert Alai, MCA of Kileleshwa, stated that there is no seriousness here.
