President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga have reached an agreement on how to end the political impasse that has led to the ongoing anti-government demonstrations.

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Saturday, July 29, Raila stated that they have agreed to form a ten-person committee comprised of various types of individuals.

“Therefore, we have agreed with Kenya Kwanza to form a ten-member committee comprised of five members each from Azimio La Umoja and Kenya Kwanza.

“They include four non-Parliamentarians, two from each party. “The Leaders of the Majority and Minority in the National Assembly, as well as four additional Members of Parliament, two from each side,” the statement stated.

The agreement was obtained following the intervention of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, who met with both teams on multiple occasions.
Azimio la Umoja stated that the information was disseminated after consultation with the leadership of Kenya Kwanza regarding the national situation.

In addition, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader assured that additional information regarding the initiative will be communicated in due time.

The coalition reaffirmed its desire for a democratic and peaceful resolution to the country’s problems, including the cost of living and electoral fairness.

In addition, Raila expressed the coalition’s collective condemnation and regret for the violence perpetrated against protesters, which resulted in the loss of life, severe injuries, and property destruction.

“We reaffirm our dedication to the Constitution and the Rule of Law. Raila stated, “We are committed to resolving our differences amicably for the benefit of all our people.”

William Ruto stated separately in Mombasa that he is willing to sit down and speak with his opponents, particularly about issues that will bring peace and harmony to the country.

Ruto extended an olive limb to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for one-on-one discussions on Tuesday, July 25.

Ruto indicated on his official social media platforms that he was willing to engage in dialogue with the opposition leader whenever the ODM party leader was ready to do so.

“Dear friend Raila Odinga, I am leaving for Tanzania to attend a meeting on human capital to coordinate the expansion of employment opportunities on our continent.

“I will return tomorrow evening, and as you know, I am always available to meet with you privately at your convenience,” he said.
