Duale Faces Uhuru Comments Summons

Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech revealed on Thursday, July 27 that the National Assembly’s Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations Committee will summon Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale for claiming that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is funding anti-government protests in Azimio.

Koech, who also serves as the committee’s chairman, stated that they wish to determine whether Duale’s allegations are supported by official intelligence and in what capacity the former Garissa Township member of parliament made the statements.

Due to his access to confidential information as a member of the National Security Council (NSC) and holder of the position of Defence Cabinet Secretary, the chairman of the committee emphasized that Duale is unlikely to make unfounded statements.

As the committee has been on recess, Koech added that the summons will be issued in the coming days.

“According to statements made by Duele, Uhuru financed this pandemonium. We must summon Duale to elucidate his meaning. “Duale is accountable directly to my committee,” he stated.

Duale has previously asserted without evidence that Uhuru is financing the demonstrations and warned the government would take action against him.

“We don’t care if you (Uhuru) continue to lament about your children and mother; the law will catch up with you. Duale commented, “Find the Head of Licensing Board boss Rashid Yakub and return all the firearms to him.”

Koech also disclosed that the security agencies had already compiled a list of the financiers of the demonstrators who were accused of destroying the Nairobi Expressway.

Koech, a close ally of President William Ruto, expressed regret that, despite the government’s efforts to apprehend the suspects, the individuals, whom he did not identify, had sought refuge in the courts.

“According to intelligence, a politician was planning to dispatch groups to Mlolongo to cause chaos. As you can see, yesterday several DCI officers were transferred due to the laxity that existed.

“I’m confident you’ve seen individuals in court. Why would you have forty firearms in your home?” he questioned.
