Ruto Claps Back at Uhuru Over Son’s House Raid

President William Ruto reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding Kenyans on Saturday, July 22, after being criticized by his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta for the raid on his son’s home.

Ruto fired back at Uhuru in Kisii County, where he launched various initiatives, by asserting that his responsibility to protect all Kenyans trumps his predecessor’s responsibility to safeguard his family.

The Head of State also supported the claim that Uhuru is funding Azimio demonstrations called for by Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio opposition party.

Ruto vehemently rejected Uhuru’s efforts to reassert control over the Jubilee Party, emphasizing that he, too, played a crucial role as one of its founding members. His commitment to work with the faction headed by East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) member Kanini Kega and former Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege remained unwavering.

Ruto stated, “Just as you go out of your way to protect and provide for your children, it is also my responsibility to protect the children of all other Kenyans.”

“You love your children so much that you send them to Arusha, Europe, and other places, yet you make the children of other people carry stones and destroy property,” he continued.

During his speech, Ruto lamented that the protests cast Kenya in a negative image, citing a conversation he had with Wang Yi, a high-ranking Chinese diplomat who expressed concern over the country’s direction.

“Now the Chinese diplomat is asking me how they can continue to partner with us given that we are destroying the roads and the Nairobi Expressway that they have constructed.”

“What will you say if someone asks you such a question?” he posited.
Ruto’s comments were made one day after Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) agents raided the residence of Uhuru’s eldest son in Karen. This action infuriated the former president, who raced to the residence and dared his successor to cease intimidating his family and face him directly.

“Approach me. What relevance does my mother have to anything? He pondered, “What does my son have to do with anything?”

Moments later, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki issued a statement verifying that the government had indeed conducted a few house raids in Karen to prevent the use of weapons during the ongoing anti-government protests.
