Jubilee Party Cancels Saturday’s Special NDC

The Jubilee Party leadership of EALA MP Kanini Kega has canceled Saturday’s National Delegates Convention (NDC).

The meeting originally scheduled to take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) will now take place the following month.

Joshua Kutuny, deputy secretary general of the party, verified the date change and added that a new date has not yet been set.

The meeting has been rescheduled and preparations are ongoing. We will issue the official communication regarding this matter in due time. We’ve already informed the members and delegates,” Kutuny revealed to GossipA2Z.

The pending court case, according to Kutuny, has prompted the decision, and their attorneys will “interpret the recent High Court order,” he added.

In a circular dated 6 June, party secretary general Kega called the meeting following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held to discuss the party’s status.

This is because the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) ruled that the May 22 meeting conducted at the Ngong racecourse by former president Uhuru Kenyatta was invalid.

The ruling by the committee chaired by Gideon Solonka stated, “The alleged SNDC meeting held on May 22, 2023, was convened in violation of the party’s constitution and was therefore also invalid.”

Jeremiah Kioni, a former member of parliament for Ndaragwa, petitioned the court on July 13 to overturn Ann Nderitu’s decision to grant Kega and his team control of the party.

Justice Asenath Ongeri suspended the Registrar’s gazette notice mandating the status quo in the leadership of the Jubilee gazette notice No. 3195 of March 21, 2022.

In the notice, ORPP published the proposed amendments proposed by Jubilee lawmakers allied with President William Ruto.

The notice stated, “In exercise of the authority conferred by section 20 (1) (c) and (e) of the Political Parties Act, 2011, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that the Jubilee Party intends to make changes to their particular.”

Kega also announced significant leadership changes, replacing all of Uhuru’s allies.

Kega replaced Kioni and nominated MP Sabina Chege assuming Uhuru’s position as party leader, as part of the changes.

Adan Keynan, Elda’s representative, has been appointed to replace David Murathe as Vice Chairman.
