UDA Sets for Clash: Counter-protests vs. Azimio

Hassan Omar, a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and the vice chairman of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), called for counter-protests on Tuesday, July 17, to counteract Azimio la Umoja-led demonstrations.

Omar announced, during a meeting attended by other UDA leaders, that Kenya Kwanza protests will organize parallel demonstrations in Mombasa to coincide with the Azimio la Umoja demonstrations.

The UDA leadership asserted that Azimio la Umoja leaders were taking advantage of their political camp’s silence, noting that they could no longer wait idly by as Azimio paralyzed business operations and, consequently, the economy as a whole.

Omar stated, “We cannot tolerate you causing economic turmoil in Mombasa. I want to tell our female representative and senator that enough is enough, let them do it, and that we will be behind the police to see who dares.”

The former senator from Mombasa implied that the Kenya Kwanza Coalition possessed the capacity and resources to orchestrate significant protests, capable of attracting comparable crowds to the Azimio la Umoja protests.

Omar criticized Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Raila Odinga for monopolizing mass actions and asserted that Odinga would soon be proven incorrect.

We have reports that in Bangladesh, Maweni, Kisauni, Tudor Mwisho, and Majengo, are planning to use the poor for their benefit, and we will be on the streets ourselves to safeguard our property, as stated by Omar.

Omar stated that Kenya Kwanza will not tolerate senseless property devastation and violence.

He urged Kenya Kwanza supporters and residents of Mombasa to work with security agencies to protect their lives and property.

“The UDA leadership of Mombasa County took a unified stance to condemn the opposition’s destruction and violent protests and to prevent the violence and destruction from spreading to Mombasa and the coast,” Omari disclosed.

At the event, Omar was accompanied by former Starehe MP Charles Kanyi (Jaguar), Mombasa County Minority Leader and Mtopanga Ward MCA Morgan Masaki, MCAs Sylvester Kai (Junda) and Samuel Mwaura (Kongowea), and Youth Enterprise Development Fund Chairperson Fatma Barayan.

Martha Karua, the leader of Azimio la Umoja, assured their supporters on Tuesday, November 18 that the demonstrations will continue despite threats from President William Ruto and other senior government officials.

Karua also cautioned neighboring nations, including Uganda and Tanzania, not to intervene in Kenya’s internal affairs by supplying the Kenya Kwanza government with arms.

The leader of the NARC-Kenya party claimed that President William Ruto’s administration had partnered with a militia to injure the Azimio leaders.

“Our crime is that we have challenged Ruto to reduce food prices, reconstitute the IEBC, audit the presidential elections held last year, and respect political parties,” Karua stated.
