MP Mbui Questions Uhuru’s Role in Financing Protest Violence
Robert Mbui, a member of parliament from Kathiani, has criticized government leaders who have accused former president Uhuru Kenyatta of financing anti-government demonstrations.
This is because leaders, including President William Ruto, have claimed that Uhuru has secretly funded Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio la Umoja, to call for protests that have lately turned violent and resulted in numerous deaths.
According to Mbui, the leaders’ accusations are baseless because they have not provided any evidence since launching their attacks on Uhuru.
He questioned what evidence could reasonably indicate that the former head of state is funding the demonstrations, given that there has been no clear indication of foreign apparatus present.
“How do you describe their financing, and what are you paying for?” “There are no weapons, vehicles, or ammunition, so what are you saying is being paid for, unless you are saying that Uhuru is paying for stones, which are littered throughout the country?” he asked on Monday’s Daybreak program on Citizen TV.
He then urged leaders to stop making insightful remarks against Uhuru, noting that they pose a threat to the nation’s security.
“We must lay to rest the issue of Uhuru and his presidency because it is over, but if you listen to the President’s tone and the words he used, you’ll hear that he said tutakusafirisha. What do you mean, given that there is a plan to kill Uhuru and Raila? What is the hidden meaning here? “I am extremely anxious,” he said.

“It is regrettable that these are the words of the chief of state. This country belongs to all of us, so let’s be mindful of how we address one another. We must respect one another.”
The lawmaker was referencing President Ruto’s warning to Uhuru and Odinga, in which he promised to end Odinga’s political career and, presumably, have Uhuru swept away by the government’s wave and retire.
“Nataka nimwambie rafiki yangu Uhuru, ata wewe wachana na huyu mzee (Odinga), wacha kumpatia pesa ya kununua watu wa Mungiki wachome Nairobi. Wewe umekuwa rais, kuwa mungwana, tulikuunga mkono wakati ulikuwa rais wetu, uliunga mtu wa kitendawili mkono tukamwangusha, wachana na yeye,” he said.
“Usipowachana na yeye, ata wewe tutakusafirisha na huyo kitendawili wako. Uhuru Kenyatta tulimsaidia akiwa Rais, sasa anapanga kuchoma Nairobi, imemkosea nini?”
Mbui was responding to Belgut MP Nelson Koech, who claimed that Uhuru had financed the protests and even compromised the Judiciary to influence the decision on the controversial Finance Bill.
“He is financing, and we have stated that this matter will be forwarded to the investigative agencies. “There is a great deal of money circulating, from funding Mungiki to financing Azimio directly, with some of their connections in the Judiciary even being used to thwart this Finance Act,” stated Koech.
