Governor Exposes Ruto’s 48 Hour Strategy to Halt Wednesday Protests

Sunday, July 16th, the governor of Nairobi, Johnson Sakaja, lent credence to reports that President William Ruto was holding crisis negotiations to prevent opposition protests.

Sakaja, speaking during a church service at AIPCA Bahati Cathedral, stated that the President will conduct high-level meetings on Monday and Tuesday to ensure that the protests scheduled for July 19 do not occur.

In addition, he stated that he was in continuous contact with the head of state to prevent trade disruptions in Kenya and Nairobi in particular.

The former senator from Nairobi also suggested that Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was a member of the group assisting the President in preventing protests.

“Murkomen disclosed information to which he has access. We have Monday and Tuesday, and I am confident that the President has the capacity and wisdom to act in the national interest,” he explained.

Sakaja disagreed with Kenya Kwanza politicians who demanded that the police crackdown on protestors while calling on Raila Odinga to end the demonstrations.

“This weekend, I interred my tenth protest-related victim. “Even if they were on the opposite side, they are not our enemies,” the Governor added.
He stated that he was in consistent contact with the President to end the cycle of protests peacefully.

Sakaja also pledged to prevent youth recruitment to participate in the protests, stating, “We are prepared to do whatever it takes to protect lives and livelihoods.”

Murkomen stated that the Azimio coalition had the opportunity to air their grievances in Parliament.

“The president has given you the ball. You have the opportunity to return for the congressional bipartisan discussions.

He sent Raila a message stating, “There is a two-day window for self-reflection; on Wednesday, find it within yourself to call off the protests.”
