Pension Stop: Itumbi Takes On Uhuru, Raila & Kalonzo!

Dennis Itumbi, a digital strategist, has created a project that aims to prevent former President Uhuru Kenyatta, the leader of Azimio la Umoja, Raila Odinga, and Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper party, from obtaining their pension benefits.

Itumbi distributed a link to the campaign known as “babatumechoka,” which was sparked by the three individuals’ ongoing participation in harmful politics, instigation, and violence.

To be able to contribute, a person will need to key in their information, which may include their ID Number, Name, Phone number, County, Constituency, and Ward name, before appending their signature and submitting their information.

Since Mr. Odinga departed from his position as Prime Minister in 2012, he has been collecting a monthly pension, while Mr. Kalonzo, his counterpart, retired from his position as Vice President in 2013.

By the provisions of the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act (2003), a former president is eligible to receive a lump sum retirement package upon leaving office. This package is computed to be an amount that is equivalent to one year’s salary for each term that the former president served as President.

Since Mr. Kenyatta served for a total of ten years, he was awarded approximately Ksh.34.56 million.

As part of the deal, President Kenyatta is eligible to receive a monthly pension of a total of 1.15 million Kenyan Shillings (KSH).

In addition, he would be eligible for a home allowance of Ksh.331,200 per month, an entertainment allowance of Ksh.216,000 per month, and an allowance for fuel of Ksh.216,000 per month.

A retired Prime Minister and Vice President are eligible for a monthly pension that is equal to 80% of the monthly pay that the entitled individual received during their time in office. This entitlement is also established in the Retirement Benefits Act of 2015, which was passed in 2015.
