Dare to Arrest: ODM Leaders Challenge President Ruto on Raila’s anti-govt Protests

A portion of ODM party politicians have dared President William Ruto to arrest opposition leader Raila Odinga for calling for nationwide anti-government demonstrations.

The leaders, led by National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, warned that any kind of assault on Mr. Odinga could destabilize the country during a rally held in the Kisumu East constituency on Saturday, July 15.

Dr. Oburu stated, “Instead of using guns and water cannons to provide security for those demonstrating for their constitutional rights, some overzealous government officials are brutally attacking, maiming, and killing the protesters.”

However, he insisted that the effort to reduce the cost of living was greater than Mr. Odinga’s and that even his arrest would not address the problem.

Where does President William Ruto get the authority to halt protests? “We do not require your permission to demonstrate,” he stated.

Mr. Wandayi warned that any action taken against Mr. Raila could destabilize the nation. “The country is in danger of disintegrating if anything happens to Mr. Odinga,” he declared.

He claimed that ODM leaders who have chosen to collaborate with President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance have abandoned the Azimio community at a time when they are being targeted for leading protests against tax increases.

“It is regrettable that some leaders have chosen to celebrate with President Ruto at Interior PS Omollo’s thanksgiving while our people are dying in Sondu. This is the equivalent of dancing on our tombs, he stated.

Kisumu Dr. Omollo was urged by the Deputy Governor, Mathew Owili, to act promptly to end the violence that has already claimed three lives.

“It is unfortunate that PS Omollo, who is one of our own, is doing nothing when our people are being slaughtered in Sondu,” he said.

But Joshua Oron, the representative for Kisumu Central, urged the government not to escalate the demand for a reduction in the cost of living into an ethnic conflict.

James Nyikal, a Seme representative, stated that the government was attempting to divert attention from the actual issues by using the Sondu conflict.

“The populace is starving and suffering. “Instead of threatening leaders, the president should simply resolve the economic crisis,” he stated.

Rosa Buyu (Kisumu West), Jared Okello (Nyando), Aduma Owuor (Nyakach), and OngOndo Were from Kasipul also attended the rally.
