Triple Threat: Azimio Unleashes Nationwide Protests Wed-Fri!

Due to public demand, Azimio La Umoja announced on Friday, July 14 that it will extend anti-Ruto protests to three days beginning on Monday, July 19th.

In a statement, the opposition party Azimio, commanded by veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, urged its supporters to increase pressure on the government of President William Ruto.

The coalition asserts that it has received “overwhelming requests from all sectors of the Kenyan public” to intensify the demonstrations.

“The Coalition wishes to announce a change to the schedule. By public requests for three days of activity, the demonstrations will now take place on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of the following week, the statement reads.

On Thursday, July 13, Raila emphasized that the nonviolent protests will continue until, among other demands, the government reduces the cost of living.

While speaking to the press, the opposition assured their supporters that protests would continue despite the government’s hardline stance.

Azimio also pledged to provide financial assistance to the families of those murdered in the most recent round of protests this week.

In addition, the opposition pledged to take legal action against the police for the extrajudicial killings.

“We have instructed our legal department to file charges against officers who violated their duty to defend Kenyans. We are requesting that Kenyans share photos of police officers who have brutalized Kenyans,” reads a portion of the statement.

The opposition has accused the government of employing thugs in police uniforms to assault peaceful demonstrators across the nation.

Ruto has asserted that Raila, with the support of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, is attempting to sabotage Kenya’s struggling economy.

President Uhuru Kenyatta insisted that the government will not yield to opposition pressure, adding that they are working to enhance the lives of Kenyans.

Ruto’s comments came just one day after Interior CS Kithure Kindiki’s statement on July 12 that those responsible for the devastation of property would be arrested.

“The Government has mobilized all of the State’s law enforcement agencies and the institutions of our country’s criminal justice system to complete their investigations immediately and proceed with the arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the planning and execution of the crimes committed today, including those who funded or otherwise aided or abetted the perpetrators,” Kindiki said.
