Double Tragedy Strikes: 3 Lives Lost in Mandera South Assaults

Three persons have died as a result of two attacks in Mandera South’s Wargadud and Iresuki.

According to OB reports seen by GossiupA2Z, the 2 a.m. The Wargadud attack claimed the lives of two police officers and one teacher.

Additionally, a Safaricom mast was destroyed.

According to security reports, the assailants also stole a police land cruiser before raiding the neighboring village of Iresuki and destroying another telecommunications mast.

The damage was verified by a senior police officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The officer alleged that two police officers and one teacher were killed in an attack in Wargadud, two telecommunication masts in Wargadud and Iresuki were destroyed, and a Landcruiser is missing.

Mandera has been the target of multiple attacks in the past month, including an assault on SOG Unit operators in the Ogor-Weyn region of Mandera North on July 6.

The incident occurred less than a week after Northeastern residents were assured of their safety against al Shabaab terrorists.

John Otieno, the regional commissioner for the Northeastern region, stated last week that the government had put in place the necessary measures to combat terrorists and that within a brief time, terrorist attacks would be a thing of the past.

Otieno stated that the region’s security officials had enlisted all political and religious leaders, peace committees, and elders to present a united front against the enemy from across the border.

“We have a large number of security officers from various formations, and they are doing an excellent job,” he said.

“I want to assure our people that the engagement we have had with communities and leaders from across the region has begun to bear fruit.”
