Joint KDF-US Operation Nabs Terror Mastermind in Daring Ambush
Wednesday, July 12, US Commandos, Kenya Defense Forces (KDF), and Security Forces conducted a joint operation in Jubaland, Somalia, to eliminate Al-Shabaab militants.
Local Somali media reported that 17 militants were killed in the operation conducted in Weelmarow Village in lower Jubba, which is regarded as Al-Shabaab’s primary haven.
According to reports, the multi-agency operation made a significant breakthrough in the well-coordinated operation as valuable intelligence was retrieved from the militia members’ confiscated cell phones.
Over seventeen members of Al-Shabaab were slain in a planned operation near the village of Weelmaro on Wednesday evening.
The operation was conducted by the Somali National Army (SNA) Force commandos, Danab, in conjunction with Jubaland regional forces, according to SNA Radio, which is operated by the Somali Army.
Authorities in Somalia indicated that the majority of the neutralized Al-Shabaab militants were Kenyan and Ethiopian nationals contracted to conduct attacks in their country and East Africa in general.

The operation was conducted a day after another covert mission commanded by the US Africa Command on July 11 in which more than 50 Al-Shabaab militants were killed.
On Sunday, July 9, U.S. special forces effectively led a joint operation that resulted in the elimination of ten Al-Shabaab terrorists, including three Kenyans.
Afmadow, Somalia was the site of three self-defense airstrikes, as confirmed by Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale.
“The initial assessment by U.S. Africa Command, in collaboration with the Somali National Army, is that the U.S. airstrike killed ten Al-Shabaab terrorists but no civilians,” he stated.
During the operation, a Suicide Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (SVBIED) and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) factory were captured.
Kenya has recently delayed the reopening of its frontier with Somalia due to an increase in terrorist attacks. In June 2023, the counties of Lamu, Garissa, Madera, and Wajir were targeted by suspected terrorists who murdered over 20 persons.
Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki stated that the delay would enable the government to facilitate a thorough and conclusive counterattack operation.
