Kitui East MP Summoned by EACC Over Assaulting Kenya Power Staff
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Nimrod Mbai, the Member of Parliament for Kitui East who was captured on camera hitting a Kenya Power engineer.
Tuesday at the commemoration of African Anti-Corruption Day at the University of Nairobi, Twalib Mbarak, CEO of the EACC, blamed the public for electing leaders with integrity issues.
“Seventy percent of Kenyans are under the age of 35, but if you believe that the proper course of action is to elect a leader who chases power officials with a gun when they come to disconnect illegal connections, then the problem is not that person; the problem is you,” Mbarak said.
“We are the ones who elect amusing characters and then make noise.” The majority of those Governors who serve two terms have many issues with EACC, but if you consider how they entered office, you will see that society adored them because they were quasi-criminals.”
Judge Emeritus Aaron Ringera, for his part, stated that the struggle against corruption in the country requires concerted efforts and urged citizens to take the initiative.

“All public officials should undergo periodic integrity screenings to determine their fitness for continued service. It saddens me to report that the National Assembly is presently considering two bills that, if enacted, would weaken an already fragile framework,” he said.
The two bills aim to repeal key provisions of the 2003 Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
Mbai made headlines last week after a viral video captured him insulting Kenya Power officers and repeatedly striking one of them during an incident that occurred on Monday.
During his fury, Mbai also reached for and attempted to draw his gun.
The Kenya Power officials assert that the MP illegally installed a more than one-kilometer-long power line on the property.
Recently, a company official informed Citizen Digital that the illegal power line was hazardous because it was overloading a nearby power transformer.
