    Iran’s President Scraps Kenya Visit

President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran has canceled his trip to Kenya.

State House Spokesman Hussein Mohamed verified to GossipA2Z that the visit would be rescheduled for a later date.

Raisi was scheduled for a three-day official tour of Kenya, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, the first such excursion by an Iranian President in 11 years.

According to an official communication from State House Press Secretary Emmanuel Talam, journalists were invited to the State House at 9:00 am for a joint press briefing.

Critics debated whether the incident would impact bilateral relations between the two countries after the announcement.

After receiving an official invitation from President William Ruto, the two heads of state were scheduled to discuss crucial issues, such as the expansion of trade, energy, agriculture, and technology.

The two were also due to sign cooperation agreements to solidify trade ties with Iran’s delegation, which included the foreign minister and influential business leaders.

Monday, July 10, the spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanani, hailed the voyage as a turning point for both nations, as it would strengthen economic ties with African nations.

In addition, he indicated that the peaceful relations between the two nations were the consequence of shared political beliefs.

To mitigate the effects of sanctions imposed in 2018 as a result of the United States’ withdrawal from a nuclear agreement, he added Iran’s pledge to increase its diplomatic efforts.

Iran imports an average of Ksh2 billion worth of tea and Ksh57 million worth of coffee from Kenya, as reported by the Observatory of Economic Complexity, the world’s foremost data visualization tool for international trade data.

Ruto was scheduled to meet with his Iranian counterpart upon his return from Congo-Brazzaville, where he signed 18 agreements to strengthen economic ties.
