KSHs 20,000 Intern Teaching Positions Announced by TSC for Junior Secondary and Primary Schools: How to Apply

On Wednesday, July 5, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced the availability of 20,000 internship positions for both Junior Secondary Schools (18,000) and Primary Schools (2,000).

The commission will distribute the interns across 47 counties, with Kitui County receiving 758 intern teachers.

Those assigned to elementary schools will receive a monthly stipend of Ksh15,000, while those assigned to junior secondary schools will receive Ksh20,000.

The duration of the internship will be twelve months during the fiscal year 2023/2024.

It assigns unemployed registered teachers to learning institutions where their teaching experience is enhanced through mentorship, coaching, and practical teaching experience.

    How to Apply

All applicants were required to submit their applications online via the official website tsc.go.ke, under the Careers tab, or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke.

The commission warned all applicants that no manual submissions would be considered.

    • One must be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.

In contrast, the requirements for primary school teacher interns are as follows:

    • One must be a Kenyan citizen.
    • One must be a PI certificate holder.
    • One must be registered with TSC.

TSC added that teachers who possess an Upgrade Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (CBC) will have an advantage.

All successful candidates will be required to carry Personal Accident Insurance to cover personal risks incurred during their internship.

Among the documents required are copies of the Teacher Registration Certificate from the TSC online portal, the National Identity Card or passport, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) card, the Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN), and two colored passport-sized photographs.

In addition, candidates should include a copy of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) if applicable.

TSC emphasized that the recruitment process was free and fair while cautioning applicants not to fall prey to fraudsters.

“Any fraudulent activity should be reported to the nearest TSC office, Teachers Service Commission headquarters, or the nearest police station,” TSC added.

Before July 18, 2023, all submissions are due.
