Raila Unveils Key Updates for Sabasaba Rally

On Tuesday, July 4, the leader of the Azimio coalition, Raila Odinga, emphasized his coalition’s resolve to continue civil disobedience and outlined the strategy for upcoming demonstrations.

Speaking to the press at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (SKM) Center, the former prime minister announced that the Sabasaba rally planned for Friday, July 7 would proceed with three significant modifications.

First, Raila announced that contrary to previous announcements, the protests will take place simultaneously in select cities throughout the country, as opposed to only in Nairobi.

“As announced, our Kamukunji meeting will take place in Nairobi this coming Friday. “This third liberation will be launched not just in Kamukunji in Nairobi, but in Kamukunjis across the country,” he stated. However, the former Minister failed to reveal specific cities.

Raila further explained that the Friday rallies will mark the beginning of a signature-gathering campaign aimed at toppling the Kenya Kwanza regime led by President William Ruto.

On Tuesday, June 27, the principal of Azimio, Eugene Wamalwa, indicated that the collection of signatures would signal the beginning of efforts to remove Ruto from power.

While confirming the official date for signature collection to begin, Raila stated that it would be a protest against the government, its policies, and punitive taxes.

Finally, the former prime minister explained that the rallies would be used to protest the impending implementation of fare increases for matatus on Wednesday, July 5.

“Let us proceed with the bold resolve that we will stick together. We are going to cooperate. Let’s fight until the bitter end, he pleaded with Kenyans.

Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua, co-principals of Azimio la Umoja, flanked the opposition leader.

As a result of being taken for granted by the ruling regime, it was necessary to take drastic action, he explained.

Raila added, “Ruto is imposing taxes on us without our consent and passing laws that have the net effect of making life more difficult.”
Therefore, the former prime minister urged protesters to engage in peaceful picketing at the Sabasaba rally.
