Ruto Mocks Azimio Amid Protests: Wamechanuka!

The opposition has been criticized by Kenya’s President William Ruto. For organizing protests against the government in response to the country’s high cost of living.

Ruto said in his statement on Saturday that the Azimio side has matured. To the point where they understand it is no longer necessary to hold demonstrations.

He also mentioned that the faction led by Raila Odinga is no longer requesting any financial assistance.

The President insisted that the government does not have any issues with the opposition. And that all they ask is that the opposition help bring the country together and build it up.

They were singing “Sasa wameanza kuchanuka” the other day, I overheard. They have ceased all demonstrations and now simply gather, talk, and then return home. Ruto commented, “That is nice, we have no problem, as long as properties are not destroyed we have no problem.”

Azimio has been leading a series of demonstrations across the country to protest a variety of issues, one of which is the high cost of living.

On Tuesday, Azimio led a rally at Kamukunji grounds where they resolved to embark on a campaign of defiance and civil disobedience. This campaign will, at various times and places, take on a variety of forms.

Raila has indicated that the act of defiance will include a refusal to pay taxes, to force Ruto out of office.

Azimio plans to announce a nationwide civil disobedience campaign on July 7 during a rally that will take place at Kamukunji.
