UDA Postpones Homa Bay Event to Avoid Raila Odinga Clash

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) postponed a highly anticipated Homa Bay event by five days to avoid a conflict with former prime minister Raila Odinga.

The event had been scheduled for Friday, June 30, but the ruling party postponed it due to a potential clash between its supporters and those affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Following reports that the Azimio leader was scheduled to tour the region at the time, this development occurred.

Homa Bay is considered to be Raila’s stronghold, a source in a prominent position within the UDA told GossipA2Z, so the party was wary that the event would fail.

“The party could not risk having an event on the same day as Raila.” There would have been destruction of property,” the source explained.

Raila Odinga will tour the region for the Piny Luo Cultural Festival, a ceremony that brings together the counties of Siaya, Homa Bay, Kisumu, and Migori.

As a sign of respect for the ceremony and to avoid a potential conflict, UDA has announced that its event will take place on Saturday, July 8, rather than on Friday, July 7.

The Homa Bay event was part of Cleophas Malala’s plan to register 15 million UDA members by 2027.

This was to be UDA’s second mega-recruitment event after Malala presided over a similar exercise on March 4 in Kisumu.

During the event, Malala disclosed that his primary objective was to recruit new members from regions where the UDA performed poorly in the 2022 General Election.

After a similar conflict occurred in Mombasa on Saturday, June 24th, chaotic scenes from Homa Bay would have cast a negative light on the party.

Malala clashed with former Isiolo County Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa over how the party conducted its recruitment exercise in Isiolo County on Friday, June 2nd.
