President Ruto Denies Kenya Hosting Sick Sudan’s General Hemeti

Saturday, June 24th. President William Ruto refuted rumors that Kenya was hosting General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo alias Hemeti. The commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces.

Ruto added that Kenya was not a participant in the dispute. As claimed by allies of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the military commander and de facto leader of Sudan.

During an interview with France 24. Ruto disclosed that Kenya was accused of aiding the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). And permitting its ailing leader, General Dagalo, to seek medical care in Nairobi.

“According to General Burhan, they don’t want William Ruto because they believe that he supports the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Essentially, you were warned not to interfere with Sudan. What is your response? France 24 journalist, Marc Perelman, posed?

Everyone has his or her own opinion. We are opposed to interference. The primary accusation against Kenya is that Hemeti is present in one of our Nairobi hospitals.

Ruto asserted, “This is a false narrative,” and maintained that he was only concerned about the millions of Sudanese affected by the war that was rapidly transforming into a genocide.

He stated that he would work with his colleagues at the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to find a way to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the Sub-Saharan African nation.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) appointed Ruto as the chief mediator in the peace talks and charged him with arranging the first face-to-face meeting between the two warring generals.

However, the faction of the junta led by General Burhan opposed it, claiming he had ties to the paramilitary wing.

Kenya reaffirmed, however, that only IGAD had the authority and capacity to recall the head of state.

The statement also urged Sudan to accept mediation and end the three-month-old conflict.

IGAD also emphasized that official communique resolutions would remain in effect until formally revised by the bloc’s eight heads of state and government.

The conflict between the RSF and the military of Sudam began on April 15, with both sides vying for control of the oil-rich nation.

As of June 2023, the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED), a disaggregated data collection platform and crisis mapping instrument, had recorded over 1,800 fatalities.

In contrast, 1,4 million Sudanese have been uprooted.
The United States and Saudi Arabia’s efforts to restore peace and sanity in Sudan failed after the ceasefire they issued expired, necessitating the intervention of IGAD.
