KEBS Goes Digital: Combating Corruption, Boosting Efficiency

The government is planning to digitize the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS). A move that the Head of the Public Service, Felix Koskei, says will reduce corruption and increase productivity.

Koskei, speaking on Friday during the launch of the KEBS App. Stated that the Kenya Kwanza government was reforming the bureau. To minimize human intervention while protecting Kenyans from substandard and illegal products.

“The KEBS App will now facilitate an interactive interface for customers to apply for quality marks, verify the conformity of products and eligibility of employees, make real-time inquiries, and provide feedback on KEBS services,” he explained.

He stated that President William Ruto’s administration was committed to the war against corruption and would re-establish the Multi-Agency Team (MAT) against corruption, adding that the government will take decisive action against those who violate public trust.

“Those who participate in corruption will not receive any sympathy from this administration,” he stated.

In a similar vein, the Chief of Staff of the State House urged KEBS to reevaluate its standardization criteria used to disqualify and discourage young entrepreneurs from establishing manufacturing and cottage industries, and he urged government institutions to cease outsourcing services that their employees are capable of performing.

“These industries are intended to increase employment opportunities for the hustler nation and generate additional tax revenue, which will be allocated to nation-building,” he explained.

We cannot be an institution that constantly seeks opportunities to steal from the government.

Koskei simultaneously requested that the organization educate and engage entrepreneurs on the significance of adhering to established standards.

KEBS Acting Managing Director Esther Ngari stated that the App will increase KEBS’s efficiency, transparency, and accountability.

She stated, “We are undergoing a digital transformation by enhancing our ICT infrastructure, which will lead to enterprise-wide digitization.”
