DJ Evolve Denies Seeing Gun: Nairobi Court Case Update
Evolve, who was allegedly shot by Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino in a Nairobi nightclub in 2020, has now told the court that he did not see the lawmaker carrying a firearm on the alleged date.
DJ Evolve, whose real name is Felix Orinda, testified Thursday as a defense witness in a case involving the MP’s alleged misuse of a firearm.
While testifying from his bed, the DJ stated that he has no idea what happened to him because he awoke in an ambulance.
On a fateful day, he admitted to the court in Nairobi that he was shot and injured by a bullet, but he does not know from which gun.
The performer went on to say that Babu Owino is his friend and that, among other things, he has been helping him pay his hospital bills.
“Did you see Babu Owino with a gun?” Defense attorney Duncan Okatch questioned DJ Evolve, to which he replied, “No, we were just having conversations.”

He went on to say, “I was wounded by a bullet, but I don’t know which gun it came from…I’m currently en route to the hospital in an ambulance…As a friend, I expected my friends to take care of me, and I discovered that Babu Owino was supporting me.
“Medical care was provided…my utilities and general well-being were taken care of…”I am voluntarily providing this testimony,” he added.
Edwin Otieno, the private protection officer and personal assistant of the Embakasi East legislator, also testified, telling the court that, before the day of the incident, Owino had informed him that his firearm had malfunctioned at the shooting range.
Babu Owino told the court a week ago that he has spent Ksh 58.6 million treating DJ Evolve and paying his medical bills.
These include a Ksh.17 million apartment in Kilimani, medical services totaling Ksh.23 million, monthly maintenance costs of Ksh.70,000, and other expenses, he said last Thursday.
