Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris Slams Fake Reports, Denies Asking Raila Odinga to Stop Contacting Her

On Tuesday, June 20, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris debunked false reports. Claiming she told former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to stop calling her.

The lawmaker stated in a statement that she still respected the ODM party leader. Whom she referred to as her party leader.
In addition to requesting that Raila stop calling her, the fake posts claimed she was being threatened due to her recent stance on government policies.

“I was elected to represent the citizens of Nairobi, not the Odingas. The fake post stated, “I will not be pressured, and he should stop calling me.”

“Treat this false information with the disdain it merits. Passaris responded, “I have nothing but respect for my party leader, the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga.”

In light of the impending disciplinary action the MP faces for voting in favor of the Finance Bill 2023, the fake posts circulated on social media.

Passaris, along with MPs Aden Adow of Wajir South, Elisha Odhiambo of Gem, and Caroli Omondi of Suba South, passed the Finance Bill in its second reading, contrary to the decision made by her party during the Parliamentary Group meeting.

She defended herself by asserting that she was still a member of the opposition and explaining that she supported the bill because some of its provisions would benefit her constituents.

“I remain in Azimio and have worked for ODM since 2007” Since then, I have supported Raila, and he has supported us as candidates.

“We must be resolute to ensure that our government has adequate funding. Where would the money come from if the government did not collect taxes? People must be taxed for the government to carry out its mission,” she explained at the time.

ODM has not yet determined the disciplinary action that will be taken against Passaris and her coworkers.

Edwin Sifuna, the party’s secretary general who is also a senator from Nairobi, alluded to the party’s intention to expel lawmakers who opposed the party’s position on the contentious bill.

“We’ve written to the members of parliament who have met Ruto and supported the Finance Bill. We do not want them in our party as ODM,” he stated.
