Activist Boniface Mwangi Debunks Allegations of State Resource Use by Martha Karua During Campaigns
Sunday, June 18th, activist Boniface Mwangi revealed that Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc-Kenya party, did not, contrary to rumors, benefit from state resources during her election campaigns.
The photojournalist refuted the notion that the government financed the Azimio La Umoja coprincipal’s campaign alongside the former prime minister, Raila Odinga.
President (Ret.) Uhuru Kenyatta was accused of using state funds to support Karua and Odinga.
Mwangi clarified to GossipA2Z that Martha Karua, Raila’s running mate, did not enjoy constitutionally unwarranted privileges.
He added that Karua sometimes used taxis to get around due to a lack of vehicles.
However, the activist was unaware of whether Uhuru’s administration, which supported Raila in his fifth run for the presidency, offered Karua any state resources.
“Martha Karua refused everything. I am uncertain whether she was offered. “I am certain that Karua’s campaign received no state funds,” he explained.

“I am unfamiliar with Raila. “I can only speak for the candidate for whom I worked,” Mwangi, a member of Karua’s campaign staff, said.
According to Mwangi, Karua enjoyed the same security as all other presidential candidates and their running mates.
“Security is unquestionable. If you run for president, you are provided with state security,’ he explained while remaining evasive about additional information.
“It is not my story to tell, but one day the truth will emerge. Martha ought to write a book,” Mwangi added on his social media pages.
In May 2023, Karua asserted that the government removed the Azimio leaders’ security detail in preparation for an assassination plot.
The opposition leader argued that the withdrawal of the security detail was illegal and that the Constitution guarantees security to the offices of the former prime minister and vice president.
The Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, confirmed the withdrawal and clarified that the action was merely administrative. However, he criticized opposition leaders for dragging their aides to illegal nationwide demonstrations.
Karua joined Raila’s camp to bolster his presidential ambitions. The leader of the Narc-Kenya party faced stiff competition for the position of running mate from Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka.
Kalonzo claims that Raila chose Karua to consolidate the support of women across the nation.
With tensions rising in Raila’s camp, Kalonzo retreated and pondered a run for the presidency. Uhuru persuaded him, however, to abandon his ambition and present a united front.
