Mount Kenya Region Secures Lion’s Share in Finance Bill 2023, Declares Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

According to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The Mount Kenya region will receive a lion’s share of the proposed financial allocations in the Finance Bill 2023.

According to DP Gachagua. The Finance Bill focuses on reviving the production of coffee, tea, and milk, the three fundamental products that generate income for residents of the region.

Saturday, while speaking at a Farmers Field Day in Githunguri, Kiambu County, DP Gachagua stated that the region will also benefit from the enormous budget allocation for road and infrastructure development.

“We are major beneficiaries of the Finance Bill in Mount Kenya. Animal feed-related items have been exempted from taxation; consequently, the price will decrease and farmers will benefit. We have also eliminated the value-added tax and tax on tea packaging.”

Additionally, the second-in-command stated that he will be on a mission to eliminate brokers stationed throughout the region who encourage price increases in the production and sale of the products.

The bill breezed through the National Assembly’s Second Reading on June 14, with 176 supporters and 81 opponents.

The Bill will now proceed to the Committee of the Whole House stage, during which the entire House will convene in committee form to examine the Bill clause by clause.

At the Committee of the Whole House stage, amendments are proposed and voted on individually.

The proceeding will then advance to the report stage, where the House will vote on the report. Members may move the House to reconvene in Committee to reconsider any contentious provisions of the bill.

If the vote is unanimous, the bill advances to the third reading, where the final vote is taken, and if it passes, it is sent to the President for his signature.
