In the past, replacing a lost certificate necessitated the submission of documents to multiple government offices before approval.

Kenyans can apply to replace their lost birth certificates in a few simple steps through eCitizen, a government-run online portal.

According to Civil Registration Services, eCitizen registration or login is required to replace a lost birth certificate.

Select ‘application for child’s current birth certificate’ after selecting the tab for civil registration services on the online portal.

Select “replacement of birth certificate application” from the drop-down menu.

The applicant must then provide the required information before uploading the identification cards of the parents and, if available, a copy of the lost certificate or the birth notification.

After submitting all requested information and documents, the applicant is required to pay the indicated fees.

You will receive a message or letter with instructions on when to collect the replacement birth certificate once the process is complete.
