Political Crossfire: Azimio’s Self-Inflicted Wounds through the Mungiki Alliance

People associated with violence, organized crime, murderous tendencies, and other activities that pose a threat to peace and security are shunned in a civilized society.

Even if they avoid jail by circumventing the criminal justice system, they are still shunned and not permitted to mingle with polite society.

All honorable, self-respecting individuals, especially those in positions of authority and cognizant that they have reputations and images to protect, make a special effort to avoid mixing or associating with individuals who are not paragons of virtue.

According to a proverb, you are the company you keep. Therefore, your righteousness must be called into question if you are perceived to be in close association with infamous criminal gang leaders.

When Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Jeremiah Kioni, and other key leaders of the Azimio la Umoja coalition are seen embracing the leader of the banned Mungiki gang, this is the only conclusion that can be drawn.

Now, Maina Njenga may claim that he embraced new beginnings as a disciple of Christ a long time ago and disbanded the murderous cult he founded and led for many years.

The sins of Mungiki, however, cannot be easily forgotten and forgiven, particularly for those who felt the fury of its violent rampages, extortion, murder, criminal cartels, and sexual violence across the majority of the greater Mount Kenya region, extending to Nairobi and parts of the Rift Valley.

In any case, it is unlikely that Mungiki, despite being declared a banned organization, ever folded or otherwise ceased to exist.

Njenga merely declared that he was no longer the leader and ceased the open promotion of the group, which halted some of its more blatant public proselytism of ostensibly traditional religious beliefs.

However, the cartel that continues to operate protection and extortion rackets against public transportation systems, construction sites, land sales, commercial transport, and other business operations is still very active in its traditional areas of operation.

Mungiki is very much alive, as evidenced by the multitudes who came out in support of Njenga when he was summoned to the headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations last week and by his subsequent appearance in court.

We must assume that the expressions of solidarity with Njenga. Regarding his most recent run-ins with the law are also expressions of solidarity with Mungiki.

In the same way, anyone who publicly supports Pastor Paul Mackenzie today. Is implicitly supporting the extremist preaching, brainwashing, and zombification. That has led more than 200 of his followers to starve themselves to death. On the false promise of meeting Jesus.

It is equivalent to expressing support for the violent extremism. Advocated by a core of radical Islamic preachers whose Jihadist ideology. Feeds the indoctrination responsible for the US Embassy, Westgate, Garissa University, and Dusit D2 terrorist attacks. Which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of innocent Kenyans.

The Azimio movement may be on a noble mission. Aimed at ensuring electoral fairness and advocating for the disadvantaged and voiceless.

If, however, it is so desperate that it must seek support from Mungiki. It alienates many Kenyans who do not want any association with a gang or cult with a violent criminal past.

Njenga’s contribution to Azimio’s value is difficult to discern in any event. Politically, he is grossly overrated due to his repeated electoral failures.

Kenya Kwanza leaders, such as Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Cabinet Secretary for Interior Kithure Kindiki. Now have a golden opportunity to portray Azimio as a movement promoting the resurgence of outlawed criminal gangs. Thanks to this strange association.

In actuality, it is evident that the criminal charges filed against Njenga for being a member of and hosting meetings for a banned organization are without merit.

They were filed not because of a sudden discovery that he still leads Mungiki. But rather to highlight his new associations with the Raila group. And, allegedly, former President Uhuru Kenyatta and to place him in the spotlight.

Gachagua’s usual rants are extremely illuminating. Last week, the Interior CS issued a status report in which he railed against forces. That allegedly support the revival of Mungiki.

Until questioned by journalists. He ignored the fact that his Kenya Kwanza colleagues were also funding the same misguided jobless youth. To engage in violent rampages against Azimio leaders, including the invasion and stock theft on a Kenyatta family property.

If the Kenya Kwanza youth wingers posing as the new Kenya Police leadership. Are ordered to arrest and charge Uhuru, Ruto, and anyone else with Mungiki ties. They must also arrest and charge Gachagua, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwa, and other regime extremists. Who have publicly incited violent attacks against political opponents.

For the time being, however, Azimio is scoring its own goals. With links that would repel any self-respecting person disgusted with the government they so enthusiastically voted for. And are now willing to hear alternative viewpoints.

And this is at a time when all it has to do is sit back and watch the government stew in its fat. Over misguided economic recovery policies that will only sink the country further into the mire.
