“Those opposed to the Housing Fund issue statements from their residences in Lavington, Kileleshwa, and Karen.

They stated, “We are the Mama Mbogas, and the majority of our people are slum dwellers; we must be allowed to discuss the housing scheme moving forward.”

In addition, the Jua Kali sector stated that they were fully supportive of the President’s Affordable Housing Programme. Because they understood the repercussions of substandard housing.

However, they expressed concern that they might be shortchanged by the program.

They pleaded with the President, “If these homes are for low-income families, let them remain for low-income families.”

The endorsement by the Jua Kali sector. Came one day after Trade Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria disclosed that 30,000 Kenyans had already begun saving for the program.

“Did you know that thirty thousand Kenyans have already contributed to the Housing Fund? They have already raised Ksh1.8 billion,” Kuria said.

He added that his ministry had begun developing a framework to increase the number.

“With gearing, I can get investors to multiply this to Ksh45 billion worth of houses, which is 25 times, and 18,000 houses for Ksh2.5 million,” he told Kenyans.
