Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu Addresses Jubilee Party Leadership Crisis

Anne Nderitu, the Registrar of Political Parties, has distanced herself from the leadership contest in the Jubilee Party, stating that her actions are by the law.

Nderitu defended her actions to uphold the NEC resolutions proposed by the Kanini Kega-led faction that expelled the party’s Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and Vice Chair David Murathe.

Nderitu stated, “Ours is only to confirm that they have followed the process and party constitution; the decision is the party’s, not ours.”

The registrar confirmed that the Kega-led team that ousted the previously mentioned duo had followed the law.

However, the case is currently before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal of the High Court.

“There are already pending cases; we will defend our actions, as we have done before,” she said.

The ruling made by the Registrar on Friday, 19 May. And submitted to the Jubilee party on Monday, 22 May, has been a source of contention. With the Kioni faction alleging that the Registrar was being utilized by the ruling coalition.

“The decision was made on Friday, but since it was the weekend, we communicated it on Monday,” Nderitu explained.

Former Member of Parliament Kioni delivered to the registrar on Tuesday. The resolutions passed by the National Delegates Conference on Monday. Which among other things expelled the rebel MPs led by Kanini Kega.

Nderitu says she has assembled a team to examine the day’s events and the minutes. To determine if the meeting was lawfully convened and if the resolutions will be upheld.

“Yes, we have assembled a team; our legal team is reviewing the minutes,” she stated.

The case is currently in court.
