Expulsion of Murathe and Kioni from Jubilee: Kanini Kega Camp Takes Action
A rival faction has announced that Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe and Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni have been expelled from the former ruling party.
Kanini Kega, a member of the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA). Stated at a press conference on Friday morning that the party’s National Disciplinary Committee (TNDC) found two officials guilty of gross misconduct and lack of respect for party organs.
The Kega camp’s decision comes just two days before the now-contentious National Delegates Convention (NDC) convened by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mr. Kenyatta’s camp has insisted, however, that the NDC will proceed as planned. Citing a vicious struggle for control of the party Mr. Kenyatta founded in advance of the 2017 General Elections.
This morning, Mr. Kega’s team convened an NEC meeting at which it was decided to adopt the disciplinary committee’s findings.

The NEC also announced the suspension of Mr. Kenyatta’s National Democratic Congress (NDC). Following a report by the party’s Internal Dispute Resolution Committee (IDRC).
“The NEC has adopted the TNDC’s conclusions and communicated them to the affected parties. We have therefore decided to adopt the TNDC’s findings,” Mr. Kega said.
He added, “The NEC has also received a report from the Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC) transmitting their decision to suspend the special National Delegates Convention (SNDC) scheduled for 22 May 2023.”
Consequently, they were brought before the disciplinary committee. They previously stated that they never appeared before the team. However, the Kega side claimed to be represented by an attorney.
The disciplinary committee did not suspend Kagwe Gichohi, who had been suspended alongside the other two players.
“The Committee determined that expelling the member may be too severe under the circumstances, but was also aware of the threat posed to the party by the charged member’s failure to comply with the financial requirements to qualify for disbursement of political party funds,” Kega said.
