KUCCPS Clears Confusion: Cut-Off Points Clarified for University Placement
On Wednesday, May 17, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) clarified that 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates would use the 2021 cut-off points to apply for university placement.
KUCCPS clarified after applicants complained that the 2022 cut-off points were unavailable on the website.
As they prepared to release the new cut-off points. The placement agency reaffirmed that students would use the old cut-off points as a guide for their applications.
“The 2022 cut-off will be available after placement, while the 2021 cut-off will serve as a guideline for applications,” the agency clarified.
GossipA2Z discovered through a search that KUCCPS has published the 2021 cut-off points for each university’s offered courses.
For example, the cut-off point for a law degree at the University of Nairobi was 42,348. And at Kenyatta University it was 42,036.

Maseno University’s 2021 cutoff score for the medicine and surgery degree was 44.143, while Egerton universities was 43.749.
All the degree programs for public and private universities are organized into 20 clusters.
To view the course cutoffs for 2021. Visit students.kuccps.net/programmes/ or log in to the student portal and select the programs option.
Alternatively, it was indicated that students would have access to the calculated cluster points. And expected course subject grades when selecting courses.
“Kindly login to your student portal, your weighted cluster points have already been calculated for you,” the statement read in part.
However, KUCCPS indicated that only those with a minimum grade of C+ would be eligible to apply to university degree programs.
According to KCSE results from 2022, only 173,345 students achieved a grade of C+ or higher.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machagou formally introduced the KUCCPS application portal.
The placement agency added new features to the platform, including the cost of courses at various universities, unlike previous applications.
In his address, the CS also encouraged candidates with grades below C+ to apply for opportunities in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
“Our TVET institutions offer over 500,000 opportunities, and we are linking them with institutions in other countries, including Germany and Hungary.”
Machogu stated, “I’ve instructed KUCCPS to collaborate with Huduma Centre so that students from all parts of the country can apply.”
