On Wednesday, May 17, many Kenyans flocked to the Maximum Miracle Cente church on Latema Road in Nairobi to catch a glimpse of Pastor Ezekiel Odero.

The televangelist was in the capital to pay a visit to his spiritual father Pastor Pius Muiru and lead the Holy Communion Service.

Followers flocked to the area, paralyzing traffic, in an attempt to see the religious leader, who made headlines after police arrested him and shut down his television station.

Some even attempted to enter through the window, but the church’s sanctuary was already at capacity.

The pastor was eventually compelled to address the escalating crowd from the church window, while police officers maintained order.

At one point, the cheering congregation prevented the pastor from addressing them, forcing him to exert control over the congregation: “Let us enter the premises in order, one by one,” the pastor instructed.

Odero shared a summons and then prayed for the congregation. During the testimony, he urged the government to reopen his television station.

“They should reopen this station to help my followers and others who rely on it for healing and blessings,” the televangelist said.

“I implore whoever is listening to this, not for my benefit but for the sake of these individuals who rely on it. You may prosecute me, but not these individuals,” he continued.

The pastor of New Life International Church pleaded with the government to reopen his television station, not for himself, but for the benefit of his congregation.

He added that his station served at least eight nations and that he pays Ksh10 million to the state every three months.

Odero added that the shutdown was affecting not only him and his followers but also the government.

“If it benefits the public, it benefits the government. “I beseech those who have received blessings through the stations,” Odero said.

The Mombasa High Court refused to reopen Pastor Ezekiel’s station on Monday, May 15.

Before proceeding to court, the judge urged the pastor and his attorneys to resolve the dispute with the Communication Authority.
