Ugandan Cop Caught Sneaking into Kenya After Shooting Lender Over Ksh77K Loan

On Sunday, May 14, a Ugandan police officer who went viral after being captured on CCTV shooting a lender was arrested.

The officer, who was reportedly on the run, was apprehended at Busia Customs as he attempted to enter Kenya illegally.

Kenyan police officers detained him at the Busia Police Station. As the investigation into the events surrounding the May 12 murder continued.

“A joint security team tracked the suspect to the district of Busia.” The Flying Squad Unit joined the Busia territorial police on Saturday, May 13.

“On Sunday, May 14 at approximately 7:00 a.m. The suspect was arrested in Busia Municipality at Customs. By a joint team,” according to a portion of a police statement.

Before being brought back to Uganda for interrogation. Ugandan police officers discovered that the suspect had already fled to the Kenyan border.

In the CCTV footage that went viral, a police officer could be seen firing multiple times at a moneylender.

Officers disclosed that the lender of Indian descent was the proprietor of a prominent lending institution.

Investigations further revealed that the police officer borrowed Ksh77,000 from the lender in 2020. And has been making payments since then.

Additionally, it was revealed that the police officer was prohibited from carrying a firearm in 2018. Due to a mental illness.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni attributed the murder to a deficiency in the country’s security agencies.

“How did an off-duty police officer gain access to a firearm. And did he leave his guard post with a firearm without authorization to commit the crime?

Why did local security allow an armed individual into the building who had no business being there? Friday, May 12, the Ugandan President issued a statement.

Museveni stated that the responses to these questions would help to shore up security system flaws.
