Sonko’s Revelation: Candid Account of Late-Night Hangout with Jacque Maribe
Former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko clarified his meeting with former Citizen TV host Jacque Maribe on Friday, May 12, following her statement in the Monica Kimani murder investigation.
In a statement, the former governor of Nairobi admitted that he met Maribe at the Citizen TV studios on September 18, 2018, where he had gone for an interview.
Sonto admitted that their meeting occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m.
The former governor disclosed that he attended the interview with several legislators and a few of his friends.
Sonko’s statement read in part, “I was with Jackie Maribe at Citizen TV when I was being interviewed on the JKL show on September 19, 2018, from approximately 9:45 p.m.”
Sonko disclosed after the interview on Citizen TV that he had offered to take all of his friends, including Maribe, to a nightclub.
After Maribe’s arrest in connection with the murder of Monica Kimani. The former governor revealed that he was able to download CCTV footage from the nightclub to support his claims.

“Since this story has existed since Jackie’s arrest, I was able to download the club’s CCTV,” he insisted.
In his statement, he denied any familiarity with Jowie Irungu. Who was also detained as a suspect in the businesswoman’s murder.
Maribe denied knowing the deceased during her court appearance on May 11. Maintaining that he was with Sonko the night Kimani was murdered.
“I left my workplace at Royal Media Services and joined Governor Sonko’s entourage at a club in Westlands. Maribe stated, “I did not even meet Jowie, who was my fiancé at the time, because he joined us later and sat at a different table.”
Maribe stated in her defense that she learned of Monica’s death by reading the news on Citizen TV.
“I learned of her passing by reading a news bulletin. I implore this court to acquit me,” she stated in court.
At 4 p.m. on September 21, Maribe hosted Citizen TV Briefs, where she announced Monica’s death.
