Bipartisan Talks: Raila Takes on Jalang’o & Rebel MPs

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga demanded the resignation of Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor a.k.a. Jalang’o and other ODM rebel MPs on Thursday, May 11, as part of new demands regarding the bipartisan talks.

While addressing a rally in Kisumu County, the leader of the ODM vowed to encourage defecting MPs to run for re-election.

He indicated that the affected legislators needed to reconsider their stance or risk losing their seats.

Raila explained that citizens can choose their representatives, and Azimio would seek the support of the people if the MPs do not resign if they do not resign.

“Those ODM-elected MPs who defected to Kenya Kwanza must return home. They must return and run for election again. Senator Tom Ojienda of Kisumu and Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo of Gem, among others, must return home.

“If you won the election, you must return to your side. The law states that the people may hold power, so we will return to them, he stated.

Along with other demands, such as lowering the cost of living and opening the servers, the former prime minister indicated that his team on the bipartisan committee would push for the de-whipping of the MPs.

“Our team, led by Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, met with the Kenya Kwanza team, and we agreed that they will discuss all of these issues within the next thirty days,” he added.

Earlier, while attending the launch of affordable houses in Lang’ata with Ruto, Jalang’o criticized the ODM leader and urged election losers to accept defeat and focus on empowering Kenyans.

“I competed against Nixon Korir in Langa’ata, and he accepted that I was victorious; those who have lost should also accept defeat and move on,” he said.

Senator Eddy Oketch of Migori County filed a petition for the ouster of the MPs, but the ODM has yet to rule on the matter.
