Kioni and Murathe Clash with Kanini Kega over Uhuru’s NDC Suspension
On Thursday, May 11, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and Vice-Chairman David Murathe took action in response to EALA MP Kanini Kega’s suspension of the National Delegate Conference (NEC) notice issued by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During a press conference, the duo announced that the May 22 meeting would take place per Uhuru’s directive and urged its delegates to reject directives from the Kega faction.
In addition, they dared Kega and his allies in the administration of President William Ruto to attend and demand their departure from the Azimio coalition.
Murathe stated that the ongoing conflict was not between Kioni and Kega.
He implied that President William Ruto was responsible for the squabbles. Adding that he was resentful for being expelled from Jubilee.
“The meeting will proceed as announced by our party leader. Murathe added, “You (the Kanini faction) cannot assert yourself by holding conferences in the streets and under trees.”

Kioni, on the other hand, advocated for the democracy of political parties and opposed interference from the public.
He argued that those acting as party leaders were ‘noise makers’. And lacked the authority to make decisions for the party.
“We are astounded that the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has allowed this drama to continue. Those individuals have no authority because they have not been gazette, lamented Kioni.
In addition, Kioni questioned the funding sources for the meetings held by Kanini Kega. And other Jubilee party members outside the party’s headquarters in Kileleshwa.
Kega suspended the conference on Wednesday, May 10. And stated that the National Executive Committee (NEC) would convene a special meeting for all party delegates.
“The party will issue a notice convening a Special National Delegates Conference by the NEC’s February 2023 resolution,” he added.
Uhuru had called a National Development Council (NDC) meeting for May 22 to formulate new policies, receive a status report from the National Executive Committee (NEC), and discuss and approve any other pertinent matters.
